5 ways Student Resource Fund helps students

Since 1997, SIU medical students have been thankful for the resources provided by the Student Resource Fund (SRF). The goal of the SRF is to provide enhancements to the student experience, funding educational and social needs that cannot be met through other sources. The sole source of funds into the SRF are contributions from alumni.

The Alumni Society Board of Governors makes final decisions at their spring meeting.

The SRF (through the Alumni Society Board of Governors) funded the following 2014 requests:

  1. Health club membership for students and their direct family at the YMCA.
  2. Portable diagnostic set (otoscope and ophthalmoscope) for first year students to conduct their history & physicals examinations in the doctoring curriculum.
  3. Case-based Online Radiology Education (CORE) program to be used in six clerkships. This is an integrated, longitudinal radiology curriculum that will be used by Internal Medicine, Neurology, Ob/Gyn, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery Clerkships.
  4. Two highly detailed plastic skeletons for use in the Gross Anatomy Lab.
  5. Subsidy for the Student Winter Ball.

Kind gifts benefit SIU community

Gifts in kind are always appreciated at the School. For two years, Mr. Vinod Gupta has provided funding for a print subscription to the New York Times for the Medical Library, and he is renewing his generous donation for the third year. “Through Mr. Gupta’s generosity, our library users have access to this well-regarded newspaper and its health and medicine reporting, “ says Connie Poole, associate dean for information resources and chair of the information and communications sciences department. “It’s also a great resource for those taking a break from their study and research.”
