Blessing
Hospital and the former St. Mary Hospital jointly sponsored
the Quincy Family Practice Program from its inception in 1979 until April of 1993. At that
time, Blessing Hospital purchased the assets of St. Mary Hospital from the Franciscan
Sisters of the Poor Health System, Inc. Blessing Hospital now operates both hospital
campuses and continues as the sole hospital sponsor of the Quincy Family Practice Program.
Blessing Hospital is a 340-bed facility. Acute medical care services are concen trated at the 11th Street campus. Thus, most of the residents' time in the hospital is spent at this facility. Some rotations involve patient care at both the 11th and 14th Street campuses. Both campuses are no more than one mile from the Family Practice Center. Blessing Hospital and its corporate services provide full medical, social and educational programs for a service area of more than 200,000 people. It is a not-for-profit institution serving a largely rural 20-county market in the Tri-State Area. Blessing Hospital is designated a rural referral center.

Blessing Hospital is
served by emergency air transport from several tertiary care centers, and, in partnership
with a private company, provides its own helicopter transport to tertiary care centers and
for emergency response. The hospital provides the ideal environment for resident
physicians to learn to care for medical emergencies and to learn the process of immediate
stabilization and transport.
Blessing Hospital also serves terminally ill patients through the Blessing Hospice and sponsors many support groups for those affected by a variety of medical and emotional illnesses. In addition, the Community Health Department of Blessing Hospital offers parish nursing, adult day care and home care support and skilled services for area residents.
