Our Mission

Education

The primary educational focus of the program is resident training. The program provides a balance of patient contact and time for intellectual and personal growth. The program also provides educational rotations for medical students, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, and coordinates many continuing medical education programs for area physicians and health care personnel. We invite interested students to contact us regarding clerkship opportunities.

Service

The program provides quality medical care to the people of the Quincy area. The program is dedicated to enhancing access to primary care both at the local and regional level. In addition to the Family Practice Center, the program operates the East Adams County Rural Health Clinic in Golden and provides directorship for the Lewis County Maternal and Child Health Clinic, for several nursing homes and for Recovery Resources, a treatment center for alcohol and substance abuse.

Principles of Family Practice

Continuous comprehensive family care is emphasized at all levels of the program. The program teaches the resident to deal definitively with over 90 percent of problems encountered in the office, and also emphasizes the role of the family physician as the coordinator of family medical care and the manager of health care resources. Program Focus Training in ambulatory care and in primary care in hospitals is the foundation of the program's curriculum. Special emphasis is given to health promotion and disease prevention, rural medicine, emergency medicine, and family centered maternal and child care. The residents are trained in procedures necessary to be a complete family physician. Community Leadership The family practice program is a vital force influencing the development policies for the medical community, and helps to develop and implement programs to improve the public health.
