What attracted you to this program?
I was attracted to the program based on the genuine kindness and knowledge of the faculty, the type of culture and exemplary leadership Dr. Albers fosters, the diverse patient population and the available learning opportunities offered within SIU facilities. Few other programs seemed to encompass all of those features, particularly the faculty feature which was most important to me. I wanted to know that I would be valued and challenged as a resident, the faculty here are not only caring and respectful towards residents but also probe residents in a constructive manner to become better and improve knowledge. A lot of this culture of excellence has been created and emulated by Dr. Albers who is a key asset to the program.

What is living in Springfield like for you?
A cost effective way to live, with little traffic, and a lot of Lincoln. My family and I have found Springfield very comfortable, my two sons really enjoy their school and my husband is getting use to things.

What are your future plans? What will your future practice be?
In the future I would like to do a fellowship in global health. My interests include working with organizations overseas and in rural health care here in the US. My ideal future practice would be a rural group practice with a small academic position nearby with the availability to leave 3 months out of a year to work overseas for medical organizations. We shall see how close to ideal we can get!
