What attracted you to this program?
I made up my mind to pursue my career in SIU Springfield Family Medicine residency program during my observership here in 2010. All the faculty, staff, and residents showed genuine empathy and sincerity toward patients and it was very impressive. They were enthusiastic teachers and leaders of
medical and residency education. All the residents and med students seemed to know the way of proper practice not only satisfying patients but contributing to the regional community. I strongly believe that this program is a strong fundamental of primary care education.
What makes this residency unique?
Firstly, our program is well-known for excellent medical education. We have many outstanding educational features including faculty development fellowship, standardized patient simulation center, one-on-one mentorship, many onsite and online CME course opportunities. Secondly, we emphasize integrative community medicine. We are one of the national leaders of 'medical home', which is the future of the family medicine project and promise of a better health-care system. Also, we go on ‘home visit’, which holds the philosophy of conventional family medicine. Lastly, the ideal balance between academic and clinical family medicine
ensures us to develop the latest evidence-based medical practice which are very useful clinical pearls.
