Donald Scott, MD Director of Geriatric Medicine A native of Harrisburg, Illinois, Dr. Scott began his undergraduate studies at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Il. He received his degree in Biology from the American University in Washington, D.C., graduating Magna Cum Laude and received his M.D. from the University of Chicago, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. After completing his residency and a chief resident year in the Primary Care Internal Medicine Program at the University of Rochester, in New York, Dr. Scott went on to complete a Geriatric Medicine Fellowship and a Masters of Health Science in the Clinical Epidemiology of Aging, at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He joined the faculty at the University of Chicago in 2000. While at the University of Chicago, Dr. Scott received a Geriatric Academic Career Award, an Excellence in Clinical Care and Medical Education Award, was named as a fellow in the Academy for Excellence in Medical Education and participated as a scholar in the Harvard-MACY Institute for Scholars in the Healthcare Professions. He has published, presented and served in a number of local, regional and national venues, in the area of medical education and geriatrics. In 2007, Dr Scott moved to SIU, to help with the growth of Geriatric Medicine in Central and Southern Illinois. He practices and teaches in both Springfield and Carbondale.
