Graduation Information

Awards: Three faculty members will be chosen by the class: Golden Apple Award, Hooding of the Graduates, reader of the Hippocratic Oath. Faculty who have received an award in the past five years are ineligible to receive that same award this year. Lists of honored faculty for the past five years are available in the Student Affairs office.

Hooding of Graduates by Family Members: A student may choose to be hooded at commencement by a family member rather than by the faculty chosen by the class for hooding if both of the following conditions are met:

The family member is a medical doctor (or PhD) who has an appointment with the School of Medicine. Such appointment may be as a clinical associate.

The hooding family member is a parent, stepparent, parent-in-law, spouse, or sibling of the graduate.

Graduation Gown Details: Students will have to pay a $30 fee for renting their gowns. Students can purchase their entire gown for approximately $500. (Gown - $306; Hood - $128; and 8-sided Tam - $74). Students keep their tassels for free. Stop by student affairs to view graduation gown and pick up information regarding purchases.

Graduation Announcements: Each student will receive 15 graduation announcements, 15 reception announcements and 2 brunch announcements for free. Additional graduation/reception announcements will cost you. Cost is based on total number of announcements ordered. ($.40 each).

Diplomas: Students will not receive their actual diplomas during the graduation ceremony (they are too big for the holders given on stage). The diplomas will be distributed the day of graduation after gowns, hoods, and holders are returned and if university requirements are met.

Graduation Pictures: The photographer is TBA.
