  • How can I make an appointment?
Our physicians see patients by appointment only. This allows us to work as efficiently as possible and reduce your waiting time. We will make every effort to honor your appointment time because we recognize the value of your time.

To schedule an appointment, call the nurse coordinator for the COMP program at 217-545 COMP (2667). The coordinator will ask you a few questions before scheduling your appointment. At this time, you may also ask any questions that you may have. If you cannot keep your appointment, we ask that you give us at least 7 days notice. This courtesy makes it possible to give that time to another patient.

  • How soon after my first appointment will I have surgery?
Not everyone is a surgical candidate. The amount of time a patient will remain in the medically managed program will depend upon their individual circumstances. During that time, as they pursue non-surgical methods of weight loss, they will be evaluated by the entire team (doctor, dietitian, counselor and coordinator) to determine if they should be referred for a surgical consultation. The surgery option is only one component of our program and is only offered to the patients that are considered both physically and mentally prepared for the life long changes a person must make both before and after the surgery.
  • If I am in the COMP program, do I have to have surgery?
Many patients are never interested in surgery and it is never forced on anyone. A patient can be medically managed in the program as long as necessary or desired.

  • Your Healthcare ProviderBecause we are part of an academic medical center, in addition to the physician or health care professional, a medical student, resident or fellow may also see you. Students are college graduates in their third or fourth year of medical school training. A resident or fellow is a medical school graduate and a licensed physician in the state of Illinois who is seeking advanced training in one of the surgical or internal medicine subspecialties. All of these individuals work directly with your physician who will be making the decisions about your care and treatment.

  • Payment Plan, Biling and Insurance
If you have insurance and have provided our Patient Billing Services Department with the appropriate name and address of your health insurance, we will provide your insurance carrier with the necessary forms to process your claims.

You are responsible for payment for any non-covered services prior to start of your program. If you are not able to pay for these services in full, a payment plan for the evaluation and treatment process and surgical procedure can be worked out by contacting our COMP clinic account representative at 217-545-4966.

  • Will my insurance pay for COMP services?
Health insurance benefits vary significantly depending on the plan in which you are enrolled. Some plans provide benefit coverage for physician supervised weight loss programs and weight loss surgery while other plans provide no coverage at all. Additionally, many plans cover only a portion of the required number of visits, so the patient will be financially responsible for the uncovered portions. Most plans that do offer coverage for weight loss surgery, first require documentation of the failure of a non-operative, physician supervised weight reduction program consisting of dietary therapy, appropriate exercise, behavior modification and psychological support. We encourage you to contact your employer or insurance plan for your specific benefits coverage information.
