Nurse Practitioners and Advocates Honored during National AANP Conference         

Nurse practitioners (NPs) and nurse practitioner advocates, recipients of the prestigious State Awards for Excellence, will be honored on Wednesday, June 23 during the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) 25th National Conference at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona June 23-27, 2010. more

Brief Bio

Theresa Boley is an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She obtained her bachelor of science in nursing degree at the University of Missouri in 1986 and her master's in nursing in the family nurse practitioner tract at the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1990. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a family nurse practitioner. Her professional roles have included staff nurse, education coordinator, head nurse, director of nursing, research associate, and nursing and medical faculty.
Ms. Boley began conducting cardiothoracic research in 1981. Responsibilities in her current position include patient care, research, and medical student and nurse education. Research interests include myocardial laser revascularization, lung volume reduction surgery, angiogenic growth factors for myocardial revascularization, and pain management after surgery.
Her bibliography includes over 200 publications in medical and nursing journals. Ms. Boley is listed in multiple Who's Who publications and serves as a reviewer and consulting editor for numerous nursing journals, The New England Journal of Medicine and The Annals of Thoracic Surgery.
She has presented numerous times on the national and international levels. She has received several professional awards, including the 2002 Licensed Professional Woman of Achievement Award from the Capitol City Chapter of Women in Management. Ms. Boley is a member of several organizations, including Sigma Theta Tau, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Association, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Illinois Society of Advanced Practice Nurses.
