Colorectal Surgery Junior Medical Student

 

Goal: The goal of this elective is to provide the student with the opportunity to observe common conditions that affect the colon and rectum.

Objectives: At the conclusion of these weeks, the student will be able to:

  1. Perform a comprehensive history and physical exam on patients that present with a colon or rectal diagnosis.
  2. Describe the peri-operative management of common colorectal surgical problems.
  3. Understand clinical manifestations of colorectal pain and principles of emergency management.

Course Description:
During the elective, the student will follow the colorectal team. The student will participate in colorectal clinics as well as colorectal surgeries and colonoscopy procedures.

Call Requirement: No call required.

Contact Person: The most senior resident assigned to each team.
