Goal: The goal of this elective is to provide the student with the opportunity to observe common conditions that affect the colon and rectum.
Objectives: At the conclusion of these weeks, the student will be able to:
- Perform a comprehensive history and physical exam on patients that present with a colon or rectal diagnosis.
- Describe the peri-operative management of common colorectal surgical problems.
- Understand clinical manifestations of colorectal pain and principles of emergency management.

Course Description:
During the elective, the student will follow the colorectal team. The student will participate in colorectal clinics as well as colorectal surgeries and colonoscopy procedures.
Please read this Chapter on Colorectal Surgery authored by Dr. James Thiele to prepare for this elective.
Call Requirement: No call required.
