Outpatient surgery: You will be assigned to the following cases during the week: ventilation tube placement, tonsillectomy, neck dissection, chronic ear surgery.  You will be prepared to discuss the anatomy of the neck, indications and complications of tonsillectomy, and indications and complications of ventilation tube placement.

Teaching Rounds: You will round with the Chief resident one day during the week.

3rd Thursday of Each Month – MMC, Radiology, Room A141 (Head & Neck Tumor Board)

Number of students:  2

Evaluation:  The student will be evaluated at the end of the week using the standard evaluation form used by the Department of Surgery.

Call Requirement:  Call will be scheduled for one night only.  Call is from 7 am to 7 am.  Call is from HOME.  To better understand what ENT residents do, you will shadow the junior resident on call for 24 hrs.  Call will be on an odd day, either the Thursday or Friday of your week.  If there are two students, then another odd day must be chosen for the second student that does not have protected time.  Contact the resident on call at 1700 the day before your call day to find out where to meet.  Not contacting the on-call junior will result in an unsatisfactory grade for this elective.  Call is required!
