OBJECTIVES

1. Define the Bosniak criteria used in the diagnosis and management of renal cysts.
2. Understand the determinants of outcome for renal cell carcinoma.
3. Understand how CT scan, MRI, IVP, Ultrasound, and Fine Needle Aspiration are used in the diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma.
4. Describe the options for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
5. List the benifist and risks of PSA screening.

CASE HISTORIES

1. A 45 year old African American man whose father died of prostate cancer has a
PSA test as part of routine health maintenance. His PSA is 2.5 ng/ml, and his
prostate exam is normal. He denies urinary complaints.

2. A 35 year old Caucasian man presents with a complaint of a left testis mass that he discovered while taking a shower.

3. A 68 year old man with a history of COPD and CAD presents with a complaint of gross painless hematuria.

4. A 55 year old woman presents to the ED with a complaint of right upper quadrant pain and nausea after eating fried chicken. Exam reveals tenderness in the right upper quadrant. An abdominal ultrasound reveals gallstones and a 3 cm solid right renal mass.
