Parking: All residents are provided with free, covered parking.
On-call rooms: Secured sleeping rooms are furnished for all residents who are on call.
Workout rooms: A complimentary workout room is available in both hospitals.
Food: Residents are given a food allotment of $100 per month at St. John’s Hospital and $40 per week at Memorial Medical Center. This money is not transferable and intended to be used while residents are on call. Both hospitals also have a Doctor’s lounge that is open for free lunch Monday through Friday.
Vacation/Sick/Bereavement/Educational Leave: All residents/fellows receive 21 calendar days of vacation, seven calendar days of educational leave, and three calendar days of bereavement leave. Funds granted for educational leave will be at the discretion of the department or division. Fourteen days of sick leave are accrued annually.
Professional Liability Insurance: Residents and fellows are provided professional liability coverage through their employing hospital. It will provide legal defense and protection against awards from claims reported or filed after the completion of the residency program if the alleged acts or omissions of the resident were within the scope of the residency program, in accordance with the affiliated hospitals’ self-insured trust and liability policy.
AT&T & Verizon both give 22% discounts on cellular service to residents.
There is a free minivan ‘shuttle’ that runs between the two hospitals weekdays from 6:30am to 6:30 pm. This service is great as it is a free ride and helps to make the trip between the hospitals a bit quicker, easier, and you don’t have to give up your prime parking spot.
