Dr. Carol Bauer is a professor and chair of the the Division of Otolaryngology who specializes in chronic diseases of the ear including hearing loss, balance problems and tinnitus. Dr. Bauer completed residency training at the University of Iowa and a fellowship in Neurotology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She is the Director of the Cochlear Implant program at SIU. Born and raised in New York state, Dr. Bauer attended college at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.
Dr.Bauer received her medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City in 1989. She received several awards while in medical school and was a participant in the department of medicine honors research program. Dr. Bauer is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. Bauer's clinical interest is in neurological problems of the inner ear and allergies affecting the head and neck. In addition to her expertise in neurotology, she is pursuing research efforts in the pharmacological management of tinnitus and cochleovestibular pathology.
