Dr. Gayle Woodson is professor and chair for the Division of Otolaryngology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She is board certified in Otolaryngology specializing in the treatment of voice disorders and other diseases of the larynx. Dr. Woodson is a graduate of Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine. She completed two years of general surgery training at Johns Hopkins, a residency in Otolaryngology at Baylor, and a fellowship in laryngology at the Institute of Laryngology & Otology in London, England.
Dr. Woodson has had leadership roles in several National Medical Organizations and government agencies, including service as President of the American Laryngological Association and the Society of University Otolaryngologists. Dr. Woodson has lectured extensively around the world and has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, and textbooks. Her research in laryngeal physiology addresses treatment of the paralyzed larynx.
