Brief Bio

Michael J. Brenner, M.D., Assistant Professor of Surgery, is a fellowship trained facial plastic surgeon.  He directs the new Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Program in the Division of Otolaryngology at SIU School of Medicine.  His practice focuses on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head and neck.

Dr. Brenner was awarded his medical degree through the 7-year Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago.  He went on to perform his residency in the 7-year Advanced Clinical Scholars Program in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, completing a 2-year Plastic Surgery Research Fellowship as well.  His training culminated with a prestigious fellowship in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.

Dr. Brenner’s cosmetic facial plastic surgery clinic specifically addresses cosmetic treatment of the face, head and neck.  He specializes in nasal reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty), cosmetic eyelid surgery, facelift surgery, forehead and brow lift surgery, necklift, scar revision, and ear reshaping, as well as nonsurgical anti-aging facial treatments, such as botox and filler injections.

Dr. Brenner’s reconstructive facial plastic surgery clinic focuses on treatment of structural deformities of the face, head, and neck. He has experience in surgery to improve nasal breathing, treating sleep apnea related to nasal obstruction, cosmetic closure of defects from skin cancer, treatment of facial paralysis, skin cancer removal and repair, parotid surgery, thyroid surgery, and all types of bony and soft tissue facial trauma .

Dr. Brenner has held leadership positions in the American Academy for Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, and the American Medical Association.  He has received several national distinctions for his pioneering research on nerve regeneration.  He has lectured widely and authored over 50 articles, book chapters and research grants related to facial plastic surgery.  He also participates in Face to Face,a humanitarian program for domestic violence victims and with international outreach.
