Colorectal Surgery

Dr. Rakinic joined the SIU Department of Surgery in October 2001. She is a board-certified colorectal surgeon, and was involved in several translational research projects at her previous institution. These included the genetic basis of familial colorectal cancer, and altered susceptibility to chemotherapeutic agents in HNPCC cancers. She was also a co-investigator on several multidisciplinary clinical projects, including the treatment of high-risk rectal cancers with preoperative combined modality therapy; some of the outcomes evaluated were clinical complete response, pathologic complete response, extension of sphincter-sparing surgery, and quality of life measures.
