Brief Biography

Dr. Imran Hassan is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He is board certified in General Surgery. He specializes in all aspects of colon and rectal surgery. His practice includes the treatment of colon and rectal cancer, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, polyps, and anorectal conditions such as hemorrhoids, fistulas and rectal prolapse. He also performs colonoscopy and has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery, which involves using minimally invasive techniques to treat many diseases of the colon and rectum. He has many research interests including surgical management of rectal cancer with sphincter-saving procedures and quality of life outcomes following colorectal surgery.

Dr. Hassan completed his residency in General Surgery and research and clinical fellowships in Colon and Rectal Surgery from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Hassan is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
