Dr. John Mellinger is the chair and program director of General Surgery at SIU School of Medicine.  Prior to joining SIU, he was on faculty at the Medical College of Georgia and Michigan State University.  Dr. Mellinger served four years in the U.S. Air Force.  His medical training included serving a fellowship in surgical endoscopy at Mt. Sinai Medical Center.  He completed his general surgery residency at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center/Michigan State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  He earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University.  Dr. Mellinger is an active member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Association for Surgical Education and Association of Program Directors in Surgery.  He is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
