Upper Gastrointestinal / Hepatopancreaticobiliary Multidisciplinary Team

At the Simmons Cancer Institute, we offer multidisciplinary approaches to cancers and complex tumors of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, bile ducts, liver, adrenal glands, peritoneum, and retroperitoneum.  In our multidisciplinary upper GI and liver tumor boards, we discuss innovative treatment strategies, including neoadjuvant therapies, locoregional treatments, and minimally-invasive techniques.  Our teams comprise board-certified surgical oncologists, surgical endoscopists, interventional gastroenterologists, interventional radiologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pathologists, as well as nutritionists, ancillary services and nurse navigators.  We also work in conjunction with colorectal, urologic, vascular, thoracic, and plastic/reconstructive surgeons as appropriate.  Every patient is provided an individualized treatment plan based on their disease process, tumor board recommendations, and their preferences.

Participation in clinical trials and our tissue biodepository are also offered.  The Whipple procedure, minimally-invasive distal pancreatectomy, esophagectomy, total and subtotal gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy, hepatic resection, hepatic ablation, and cytoreductive strategies are available as appropriate.
