Breast Surgery

The Breast Center at the Southern Illinois University Simmons Cancer Institute evaluates and treats benign and malignant surgical disorders of the breast. Our team serves patients through both Memorial Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital, and we work closely with our colleagues in Radiology from both institutions for the accurate and timely diagnosis of all breast conditions. Our patients cases are routinely discussed in a multidisciplinary manner by our surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pathologists so that we can bring to them the latest and most effective treatments available for their diagnosis. Our surgeons also work very closely with our colleagues in the Department of Plastic Surgery to provide the best possible reconstructive options for patients undergoing mastectomy.

Our group is also involved in multiple national clinical trials (SWOG, NSABP, etc.) for breast cancer and all patients are screened for possible enrollment as part of their treatment planning. We are also participating in several translational projects with the scientists at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine to improve the understanding of breast cancer metastases.
