H. Dennis Mollman, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Dennis Mollman graduated from the University of Missouri in 1974 with a B.S. in Chemistry with honors.  He subsequently obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at Washington University.  Medical school training was at St. Louis University with the awarding of an M.D. degree.  His residency was pursued in Neurosurgery at the highly respected University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis.  He entered private practice in St. Louis in 1987 with Neurosurgical Associates, Inc., one of the oldest private practice groups in the country.  He became board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in August of 1989.

He is presently a member of the two large national neurosurgical societies, both the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, he is also a member of the William T. Peyton Society and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  Past hospital affiliations were St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri, Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri and the Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis, University of Minnesota School of Medicine Hospitals, Minneapolis Methodist Hospital, and the Minneapolis VA Hospital.  He left Missouri in 2003 along with over half of the neurosurgeons in the state due to the soaring costs of medical malpractice.  He then practiced at Wausau Hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin as a member of Spine Care Specialists. Due to the inability to recruit another neurosurgeon, the ever other night call became unacceptable resulting in the move to Minnesota.

He joined the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Department of Neurosurgery as an Associate Professor, Vice-Chairman, and also has an appointment as Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.  As the department expanded its relationship with the Park Nicollet Health System, Dr. Mollman became the chairman of neurosurgery Park Nicollet while maintaining his position at the University of Minnesota.  His special interests inside of the neurosurgical field are:  complex and minimally invasive spinal surgery, stereotactic and image guided cranial surgery for tumors and vascular lesions, epilepsy surgery, and radiosurgery.

Dr. Mollman has published articles in the fields of organic chemistry, biochemistry, and neurosurgery.  He is a published author in a textbook of spinal surgery.  He was the project director for Neurosurgical Associates transition to electronic medical records helping to design and program the final product.  At the University of Minnesota he lead the  re-organization of the clinical practice and was an active member of multiple administrative committees.  As Division Head of Neurosurgery at Park Nicollet clinics he participated in the advancement of the division and development of a minimally invasive spine surgery program.

He is now the Chairman of the Division of Neurosurgery at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.  Outside of neurosurgery he enjoys: fly fishing, his golden retriever - Max, downhill skiing, French cooking, bicycling, canoeing, photography, computer programming and private aviation.
