Orthopaedic Residency Program
Thank you for your interest in the SIU Orthopaedic Residency Program. We take great pride in our educational and research opportunities with our goal to train the next generation of highly skilled leaders in the field orthopaedic surgery. We look for extremely motivated talented individuals that will contribute to our team and the specialty. SIU Orthopaedics participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). You will need to contact your medical school Dean's Office to access the MyERAS web based application. We require three letters of recommendation and your MSPE, personal statement, ERAS generated CV and USMLE transcripts. It is your responsibility to be sure all your letters of recommendation are sent. Ask the individuals you have indicated as REFERENCES to send their letters of recommendation to the Dean.
The Dean’s office will upload all the application materials to the Program Directors through the Internet. If you are currently in a residency program in any discipline or have an obligation to a residency program, please indicate this and explain why you have decided to change your position. (If you have an obligation to another residency program, we require a letter from that Program Director indicating their knowledge of your application to our Program.) Please include a personal statement with your application. If there are any interruptions in your education, please explain those interruptions in your personal statement.
The selection committee is most interested in what special qualities and experiences you have and what you hope to do with your orthopaedic education. The personal statement helps us to know you, and we read it with great care. Your completed application will be thoroughly reviewed. Interview invitations will be sent by e-mail. There will be two interview dates, December 9 and 14, 2013. Three PGY-1 positions are offered through the NRMP to carry through a full orthopaedic educational program (categorical match).
DEADLINE for receipt of all application materials other than the Dean’s letter is October 15.
