Why Does My Shoulder Hurt?


Dr. El-Amin is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in shoulder and sports medicine.  
He earned both his medical school degree and a PhD in molecular and cell biology from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He received his orthopaedic surgery training at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville, VA.  Most recently he completed a fellowship in Shoulder and Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY, where he was the Assistant Team Doctor for the New York Knicks and St. Johns University under the guidance of Drs. Answorth Allen and Lisa Callahan.  Currently he is proud to be Team Physician for UIS Athletics.

Dr. El-Amin is a member of several medical societies, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Research Society, and National Medical Association.  Dr. El-Amin founded the Laboratory for Tissue Engineering and Advanced Biomaterials here at SIU.  His research interests include the area of tissue engineering where he designs ligaments for ACL, elbow and shoulder reconstruction.  He has multiple publications and patents in these areas.  Dr. El-Amin has over 40 publications in medical journals, a book chapter, has given approximately 50 presentations, and is the recipient of multiple research grants.
