Dr. Saleh is nationally and internationally known for development and utilization of cutting-edge surgical procedures related to adult reconstructive orthopaedic surgery and joint replacement.  He received his medical training at the University of Western Ontario, graduating in 1991, and he completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Toronto in 1997, followed by a fellowship in geriatric orthopaedics at the University of Toronto at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Toronto.  In addition, he holds a Masters in Health Care Management from Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Saleh currently serves as the Division Chairman of the Division of Orthopaedics at SIU School of Medicine.  Prior to coming to Springfield, Dr. Saleh served as a clinical instructor at Cornell Medical College Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, a faculty member in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota, and as the Division Chief of Adult Reconstruction in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia.  

Dr. Saleh is the author of over 150 journal publications, many books, chapters, abstracts, and over 200 presentations.  He has been invited many times to be a visiting professor, give lectures and symposiums, as well as moderate various activities both nationally and internationally.  He is a member of several orthopaedic societies, and is Board Certified by the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, where he also serves as an oral examiner for surgeons seeking board certification.  Dr. Saleh is the recipient of the 2013 “Teacher of the Year” award, presented by the Residents of SIU Orthopaedic Surgery, which he counts among his highest honors.

Medicine has been the primary tool that Dr Saleh has used to fulfill his personal mantra of improving the lives of individuals. Dr Saleh is honored and privileged to be a member of the medical profession and is passionate and cares immensely about the advancement of quality of life through the delivery of efficient healthcare, cutting edge scientific research and the education of the next generation of physicians.

Dr. Saleh specializes in hip and knee surgery, and subspecializes in complex reconstructions and the treatment of musculoskeletal infections. He enjoys the challenges, intellectual and technical demands, of these difficult and intricate cases. He is an expert in merging old and new technologies, and has been innovative in developing new techniques and strategies to deal with these complicated cases, receiving three patents and speaker invitations to share this knowledge at over 80 institutions.

Dr Saleh has provided over 100,000 consultations and performed over 6000 procedures providing patients and their families, invaluable information and treatments with outstanding outcomes while maintaining a pristine professional record. He is dauntless when it comes to patient-centered quality care, even for the most difficult of cases.

Dr Saleh’s clinical excellence has been recognized by leading institutions such as the Institute of Medicine, National Institute of Health, National Academies Research Council, National Quality Forum and the Keck Foundation and has been invited as consultant on number of national initiatives, geared at improving health system processes.
