Brief Bio

Thomas E. Hansen, M.D. is a fellowship trained hand and upper extremity surgeon serving as Assistant Professor in the Division of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery with special interests in hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder surgery, including arthroscopic procedures.

Dr. Hansen received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He completed his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, followed by a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of Rochester.

Prior to joining SIU, Dr. Hansen was in practice in Rochester, NY as an Assistant Professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Upper Extremity Division.

Dr. Hansen evaluates and treats a full spectrum of injuries and conditions from the shoulder to the fingertip, including hand injuries, fractures and post-traumatic deformities of the upper limb, infections, nerve compression and overuse syndromes, arthritis and tendonitis, rotator cuff injuries and shoulder instability, and congenital malformations.
