Hospitals

Springfield is fortunate to be the home for two major hospitals located just 7 blocks from each other.  St. Johns Hospital (www.st-johns.org) and Memorial Medical Center (www.mhsil.com) rotate service as a Level – I trauma center for over 10 referring hospitals and 10,000 square miles.  As a resident your time is split pretty evenly between the two places.  There is also a state-designated pediatric hospital attached to St. Johns hospital where we provide the majority of our pediatric care.  Both hospitals are very supportive of the residency program and provide food stipends, free covered parking, on-site gyms, orthopaedic resident offices, and a free shuttle ride between the hospitals. In addition to the two major inpatient hospitals we have an opportunity throughout our training to cover cases at three outpatient surgery centers.
