Why SIU: The faculty is reason enough to want to come to SIU, but the residents are unmatched - not only their character, but their work ethic and drive to motivate, teach, and challenge each other as well as themselves. Education and learning are paramount to the faculty and residents. The technical skill and knowledge demonstrated by the residents - even the more junior classes - confirmed that I would receive superlative training. Early operative experience and the one-on-one operative instruction from faculty in both the academic and community settings place the resident in a primed position to receive a complete surgical education. The emerging theme of research at SIU has set the stage to maximize the opportunities for residents who are interested in pursuing research as well as easily facilitate those that are not.

Why SIU: I was immediately impressed by the dedication to educating the residents. The level of commitment the residents have to teach the fellow residents is definitely an asset to the program. The combination of early operative experience, dedicated academic and community attendings and the appropriate amount of protective resident education time makes SIU a great place to train. And you won't find resident camaraderie like this anywhere else!
