Dr. Khaled Saleh (Adult Reconstruction)
"As the chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at SIU, I recognize the human cost of Musculoskeletal problems which lie at the intersection of human and public policy and I believe that there is significant potential for growth and demand for novel evidence-based approaches to prevent and treat bone and joint diseases.
My vision is to develop an internationally renowned Orthopaedic Unit of
excellence for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal
disease that will improve quality of life and lead to a cures at SIU. The mission is to integrate clinical services, education, and research related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of bone and joint related diseases and to shape the face of musculoskeletal health care delivery. This will facilitate the recruitment and retention of the highest quality faculty, students and residents with an interest in musculoskeletal
research, education, and advanced patient care. I believe the creation of this unit at SIU would also serve to raise public awareness of bone and joint diseases nationally, and to foster the development of minds and hands that will provide the future care for the generations to come."
Resident’s thoughts: “Dr. Saleh is a wonderful new addition to SIU. He has a passion for education and is always teaching in the ORs, clinic, or hallways. He is supportive, approachable, and a great mentor to have as a chairman.” (PGY-4)
Dr. Keith Gabriel (Pediatrics)
“I have the best job in the world: With my patients I can play all day, with my residents I can change the future.”
Resident’s thoughts: ‘Working with Dr. Gabriel is one of the best rotations at SIU. His ability to teach the practice of orthopaedics and model how to interact with patients and families is amazing. As the residency director he is always accessible and approachable and places resident education as the top priority of the program.”
