Dr. David Olysav (General Orthopaedics and Adult Reconstruction)
“I had been involved with resident education as volunteer faculty in private practice.  As a full time faculty member, I work with students who have an interest in ortho and help them through medical school and residency to become orthopaedic surgeons.”

Resident’s thoughts:
“Dr. Olysav brings a wealth of experience and patience to the table when working with the junior residents. He understands the value in completely handing over the reigns in the OR and clinic, providing us with a chance to think and act like an attending. Our experiences with Dr. Olysav provide us with a strong foundation of critical thinking and problem solving skills as well as honing our surgical technique. Truly an invaluable experience.”  (PGY-2)

Dr. Mark McAndrew (Trauma)
“I discovered as a senior resident that I enjoyed teaching and watching someone's joy at completing a surgical task well.  I chose to do fracture work and it has only been the last 5 years that there have been acceptable trauma centers in which to work that did not also have an association with a residency.   So, we have struck a bargain, I teach you how to care for patients with fractures and you help me care for them.”

Resident’s thoughts:
“Dr McAndrew has had as much influence on me as any attending with whom I have worked.  He has stressed to me the importance of preoperative planning, patient optimization, and the critical evaluation of my surgical indications.” (PGY-5)

Dr. Anjali Singh (Pediatrics)
“Being a part of an academic practice allows me to have the best of all situations.  I am able to take care of straightforward pediatric fractures as well as complicated tertiary pediatric referrals.  Most rewarding though is the chance to be constantly challenged and pushed by my daily contact with residents.  I enjoy having a role in their growth in confidence and technical skill as they develop into an orthopaedic surgeon.”

Resident’s thoughts: “Dr Singh is one of the most pleasant people with whom I have ever worked.  The experience I obtained in pediatric fracture work on her service was absolutely invaluable.” (PGY-5)
