Dr. Gayle Woodson is professor of otolaryngology and residency program director for the Division of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She is board certified in otolaryngology. Her specialty is treatment of the voice and voice disorders including diseases of the larynx. Previous appointments include the University of Florida in Gainesville, University of Tennessee in Memphis, University of California San Diego School of Medicine and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Dr. Woodson served a fellowship in laryngology at the Institute of Laryngology & Otology in London, England and another one in otolaryngology at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed her residency in otolaryngology at Baylor College of Medicine and her general surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Prior to that she completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Woodson currently serves as the Exam Chair for the American Board of Otolaryngology. She sits on the council of the American Laryngological Association. She is past President of the Society of University Otolaryngologists, and recently completed her term as Chair of the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Otolaryngology. Dr. Woodson's research in laryngeal physiology addresses reinnervation of the paralyzed larynx.
