The Division of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Residents would like to welcome you to our web site. This site has been created for use by faculty, residents, prospective residents, community otolaryngologists and patients. The SIU otolaryngology residency has a long standing commitment to research and resident education. Our program boasts a tremendous faculty to resident ratio and impressive exposure to a wide range of procedures.

The otolaryngology division has 8 labs, running full time, staffed by PhD. and M.D. trained faculty. (All of this at a program which accepts only two resident per year!) We are very proud of this outstanding program.
We are certain that you will be impressed as well. We hope you enjoy browsing the web site.

What brought you to SIU? The attendings are great and the operative cases are plentiful; both of which are essential for a surgical program.
What is your area of interest/research? I'm still exploring the diverse fields of Otolaryngology but I may have a draw towards otology and facial plastics. But then again, I'd be happy practicing general ENT, as well. Email: zaziz@siumed.edu

What brought you to SIU? The excellent otolaryngology faculty to resident ratio, exposure to all of the otolaryngic subspecialties, and the opportunity to work with genuinely friendly and likeable residents and faculty.
What is your area of interest/research? I am quite open to exploring further specifically where my interest develops within otolaryngology, but presently I am excited and eager to become involved in all areas of the field. Facial plastic surgery does tend to peak a little extra interest, though, so perhaps I will seek research opportunities there. Email: cperro@siumed.edu

Dana Crosby, M.D.

Where are you from? Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania

What brought you to SIU? There were many things that I liked about SIU when I interviewed here:
1) it is an excellent training program with extensive early operative exposure
2) very strong operative logs with a wide variety of cases and
3) great access to research.  I felt it was an excellent all around program, but the thing that influenced my decision the most was the people that I met here.  The
attendings, residents, and staff were extremely welcoming and a lot of
fun!  It was important to me to train in an atmosphere that allowed me to feel
comfortable and have some fun throughout the 5 long years of residency!

Areas of interest/research? As an intern I am still equally excited about all of the subspecialties ofotolaryngology.  I am still narrowing down my specific areas of ineterest.  At this point I would say I am most interested in craniofacial reconstruction, otology, and laryngology.  My research to this point has been focused on laryngology.
