From the Department Chairman

I welcome you to the web site of the SIU Department of Surgery.
We offer a talented and dedicated faculty and staff that provides daily evidence of our commitment to all three aspects of the academic mission: Clinical Practice, Education, and Research.
Surgeons in nine divisions offer state of the art surgical technology, including many innovative and experimental procedures available as part of clinical trials.
Most importantly, our surgeons and staff offer this comprehensive surgery with care, compassion and professionalism.
We are committed to the concerns and needs of the patients we serve.
Our educational programs for medical students and residents in training are models of excellence throughout the country.
We continue to explore new ways to enhance the training of future physicians. Our surgeons in training work closely with the surgical faculty to provide added value to patient care.
I am proud as well of the strong research program in the Department directed by both our surgeons and full time Ph.D. researchers.
We currently rank No. 1 in the United States in funded research among departments of surgery in community-based medical schools.
It is my hope that the information provided here will help allow you to determine ways in which we can serve you with information, resources, or surgical care.
