Brief Bio

Dr. Andreas Meier, Associate Professor and Chair of Pediatric General Surgery, specialized in laparoscopic pediatric surgery.  He also is director of the SIU Surgical Skills Lab and Simulation Center and has special interest in surgical education. 

He obtained his medical degree from Ludwig Maximilian University School of Medicine in Munich, Germany.   He served his general surgery residency at Stanford University in Stanford, California followed by a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.  He also completed two research fellowships at Stanford University.   He will start a Master in Health Professions Education course at the University of Illinois this year. 

Prior to joining SIU in 2008, Dr. Meier was Assistant Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics and Director of Education, Division of Pediatric Surgery, at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania. 

Dr. Meier is a member of several medical societies, including the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, Association for Academic Surgery, American Academy of Pediatrics , American College of Surgeons and Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons.
