Dr. Ahmed El-Zawahry, Assistant Professor of Surgery, specializes in urinary incontinence, voiding dysfunction and women’s urological issues, He received both his medical degree (1993) and residency training in Urology in Asyut, Egypt (1997) where he also earned a master’s degree in Urology (1997). He spent a year on staff at Assiut University Hospital followed by 4 years on staff at Suez Canal University in Egypt. In 2002 he moved to the United States and completed a basic research fellowship in prostate disease at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) (2005) followed by a Urology residency (2011). Most recently he completed a fellowship in men and women voiding dysfunction, female urology, urodynamics and urologic reconstruction at MUSC (2012). Dr. El-Zawahry accepts both male and female patients. He treats women with pelvic organ prolapsed, urinary incontinence, urgency, frequency, voiding difficulties, voiding problems related to neurogenic issues, urinary tract infections and urinary fistulae including uro-vaginal fistulas. He also treats men with voiding dysfunction, urinary incontinence and prostate associated voiding dysfunction. He has developed extensive experience in the newest technologies including Botox injection for neurogenic voiding dysfunction, Green Light Laser Prostatectomy, Interstim and the Artificial Urinary Sphincter for male incontinence. He also treats stone conditions using Holmium Laser and Extra-Corporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL).
Dr. El-Zawahry is a member of several medical societies, including the American Urology Association, International Continence Society, Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction, American Urogynecologic Society and American Medical Society.
