Dr. Patrick McKenna is the chair and a professor in the Division of Urology in the Department of Surgery. He received his medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Dr. McKenna completed his urology residency at Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia and later completed a Clinical/Research Fellowship in Pediatric Urology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
Dr. McKenna is a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology, a Specialty Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Pediatric Urology.
He has served on national committees and in national offices with the Society for Fetal Urology, the National Kidney Foundation and the Society of Pediatric Urology. In addition, he is a member of the American Urological Association, the Society of University Urologists, the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Pediatric Urology, the Society of Government Service Urologists, the American Medical Association, and the Society for Transplantation.
Dr. McKenna has given numerous lectures and presentations nationally and has written over 100 papers and abstracts.

- Developed the reconstructive program at CT Children’s Medical Center so that, for the first time, all complex pediatric urologic reconstructive problems can be managed in Connecticut.
- Brought on full-time pediatric urologic nurse practitioner to assist with evaluation of patient education and bowel program; replaced with full-time physician assistant.
- Sucessfully closed six primary exstrophy patients over the last 2.5 years and a large number of complex hypospadias, bladder reconstructions, and other complex, reconstructive problems.
