Becky C. Milan, APN, CPNP
Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

 

 

 

 

Becky Milan is an Advanced Practice Nurse in the Division of Urology at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  She practices in collaboration with Dr. Patrick McKenna, specializing in the treatment of pediatric incontinence, pediatric voiding problems, urinary tract infections and other pediatric urology problems.

Prior to joining Southern Illinois University, Ms. Milan worked as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Indianapolis, IN.  She also has served on the faculty at Indiana University School of Nursing.  She has 18 years Advance Practice Nursing experience primarily in Emergency Nursing and Pediatrics. 

She obtained her Associate of Science in Nursing in 1980 at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg.  She completed three additional degrees at Indiana University School of Nursing - a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 1989, a Master of Science in Nursing in 1993 and a Post Master’s Certificate as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in 1996.   She is certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in both Primary and Acute Care.  She completed a Clinical Ethics Fellowship at the Fairbanks Center for Medical Ethics in Indianapolis in 2006,
 
Ms. Milan is a member of several organizations including the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and the Coalition of Advance Practice Nurses of Indiana. She was inducted as a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing – Alpha Chapter – in 1989. She has been recognized by the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners as a Clinical Expert in the areas of Bioethics and Palliative Care.

    Developed numerous patient/family education resources and tools for private practice setting.
    Initiated and developed adolescent gynecologic services in pediatric office.
    Developed an interactive, small-group, teen alcohol prevention program.
  • First Care - Children's Medical Center, Dallas TX 1996 Developed Program and tools for Nurse Practitioners to function in the Emergency Department of a Pediatric Tertiary Referral Hospital. Included: revising triage criteria, developing protocols, writing practice agreement with Emergency Center Medical Director, collaborating with a team of professionals to design and construct 8-bed urgent care area adjacent to Emergency Center. It also included the development of several Nurse Practitioner resources and tools (one page chart document, NP Formulary to meet TX guidelines for prescriptive authority, practice guidelines) to enable the Practitioner to provide efficient thorough care for routine, mild childhood illnesses.
