  • Conservative management of prostate cancer including MRI targeted biopsy and focal therapy
  • Causes of higher mortality in bladder cancer affecting females
  • Investigating the genetic bases of genitourinary malignancy using next generation sequencing

Dr. Shaheen Alanee, Assistant Professor of Surgery, specializes in urologic oncology, minimally invasive urologic surgery and general urology. He is Head of Urologic Oncology for SIU School of Medicine's Division of Urology. Dr. Alanee completed a urologic oncology clinical fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.He completed residency training in urology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.He earned a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Global Health at Emory University in Atlanta. Dr. Alanee has clinical and research interests in prostate cancer, bladder cancer, advanced kidney cancer, and hereditary basis of urinary malignancies.He is a member of the American Urological Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Society of Human Genetics. He has presented nationally and internationally and has written several papers in peer reviewed journals.
