Welcome to the Division of Urology in the Department of Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Our comprehensive urology program has grown exponentially over the last decade, to include subspecialists in all areas of urology. Our residency training program has grown, along with our clinical program and is now recognized as one of the top modern urology training programs in the country. Our faculty members are internationally known surgeons that are credentialed in multiple urologic subspecialties, fellowship training and other advanced training. All members of the faculty are board certified by the American Urologic Association and contribute on a national level to advancing each of their subspecialties. Members include faculty that have subspecialty training in robotic oncology, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, pediatric urology, female incontinence, urologic oncology, and andrology. We can manage all urologic problems and work to assist the citizens of central and southern Illinois in meeting their healthcare needs through education, patient care service and research. Our group is working to improve the urologic health of central and southern Illinois by educating medical practitioners on the latest principles and practices in urologic care, conducting research and identifying new treatment methods, and providing treatment for patients in a convenient, caring environment, utilizing the highest quality medical practices. Since our surgeons practice their specialty in an environment of research and teaching, it provides our patients access to the latest technological advancements in the field of urology. Our faculty is the largest subspecialty group in urology in central and southern Illinois and is nationally recognized as providing a high level of urologic care locally. We have a professional reputation of providing compassionate and state of the art surgical care to our patients, support to community programs, and unsurpassed education for our trainees. Through these activities, we support the overall mission of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Like our urologic clinical practice, the residency training program has matured to the point that it is considered one of the top modern training programs in the United States. Easily coming in below the required duty hours, our program is based on a sound didactic program, the most advanced surgical skills lab program in the country and a high clinical volume. Our residents participate in active patient management. Our program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Upon residency completion, our residents are eligible for certification by the American Board of Urology. Our medical students are integrated into our clinical and didactic experiences which provide them with knowledge of genitourinary diseases and conditions encountered in urologic practice. The strong professionalism exhibited by our faculty, residents, and staff has resulted in superior outcomes for patients and outstanding educational opportunities for residents and students. Our programs are now fully integrated with the Simmons Cancer Center, SIU Fertility Center, the Urogynecology program, and the St. John’s Children’s Hospital.
