Residents will rotate through two clinical services (SIU service and Springfield Clinic service) in 2-month (PGY-2&3/Uro-1&2 residents) and 3-month (PGY-4/Uro-3) intervals.
The SIU service is responsible for participating in cases/clinics and managing the patients of the SIU attending urologists: Drs. • Research

The Springfield Clinic (SPC) service is responsible for participating in the care and management of the patients of the community urologist teaching panel:  Drs. Baron, Roszhart, Severino and Lieber.  The areas of urology encompassed by the SPC service include:

The resident will have dedicated time with the attending urologists in the outpatient clinic setting, will be assigned to perform initial hospital consultations, and will assist in the operating room.  Assigned responsibilities will be commensurate with level of training and experience.
The Chief Residents (PGY-5/Uro-4) participate in clinics/surgical cases of their choosing.  They manage the participants corresponding to the surgical cases in which they participate and are independent of the service rotations.

Springfield Clinic Urologists Occasionally Partner With SIU Urology Residents

Dr. Thomas Barron Dr. David Lieber  Dr. David Roszhart   Dr. William Severino

Our SIU Urology residents partner with well trained and highly skilled staff from Springfield Clinic. Each member is committed to continuing medical education and active involvement in professional medical associations to deliver state of the art techniques and technologies to patients in the Central Illinois. Upon residency completion, our residents are eligible for certification by the American Board of Urology.

Like our urologic clinical practice, the residency training program has matured to the point that it is considered one of the top modern training programs in the United States.  Easily coming in below the required duty hours, our program is based on a sound didactic program, the most advanced surgical skills lab program in the country and a high clinical volume.  Our residents participate in active patient management.  Our program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Our medical students are integrated into our clinical and didactic experiences which provide them with knowledge of genitourinary diseases and conditions encountered in urologic practice.  The strong professionalism exhibited by our faculty, residents, and staff has resulted in superior outcomes for patients and outstanding educational opportunities for residents and students.  Our programs are now fully integrated with the Simmons Cancer Center, SIU Fertility Center, the Urogynecology program, and the St. John’s Children’s Hospital.
