Brief Bio

 

Dr. Douglas B. Hood, associate professor of vascular surgery, specializes in the treatment of arterial occlusive disease and aneurysms. He has a particular interest in the treatment of abdominal and thoracic aortic conditions. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He received his medical training at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha. He served a general surgery residency at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, followed by a two-year fellowship in vascular surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois.

Prior to joining SIU in 2007, Dr. Hood was Director of the Endovascular Therapy Program at USC, where he was instrumental in establishing minimally invasive methods for the management of vascular disease and in training other physicians in the use of these techniques.

Dr. Hood is board certified in general surgery with added qualifications in general vascular surgery from the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of several medical societies, including the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Vascular Surgery, and the International Society of Endovascular Specialists.
