Pancreas

Notes

The pancreas is a compound, acinar, serous, exocrine gland with islets of endocrine cells.

This low-magnification view shows the organization of acinar parenchyma into irregular lobules, separated by prominent clear spaces.  The amount of space is an artefact, since the size of interlobular spaces (which contain loose connective tissue) is easily altered by manipulation (stretching or compression).  Connective tissue of an interlobular septum is visible at right, including a prominent blood vessel.
