Nervous tissue, ventral horn of spinal cord

Arrows on this image of spinal cord indicate blood vessels.  Note that vessels in white matter appear black (because the blood cells within have stained), while the appearance of blood vessels in gray matter is dominated by the pale halo (a shrinkage artefact) around the vessel.
