Simmons Cancer Institute is staffed by oncology certified nurses specializing in chemotherapy preparation and the administration. They are here to assist you and provide support through your treatment. Compassionate care, state-of-the-art training and incredible support are the standard at Simmons Cancer Institute.
We are located in the same building as your oncologist, and for your convenience Memorial Medical Center has a lab in the building. Physicians are on site and available in case of an emergency. We work closely with all of your cancer care team members to provide on-going patient care, education and support for you and your family members.
The cetified chemotherapy nurses in our infusion area provide the full range of cancer care including chemotherapy administration, IVIG, bladder instillations, and other various intravenous infusions including iron and electrolytes. Treatment is individualized to each patient’s condition. Our on-site pharmacist and pharmacy technician prepare medication and chemotherapy at our facility.
All patients who are beginning chemotherapy treatment or patients that have a change in treatment regimen, will be offered a scheduled education appointment with a nurse. This appointment will include specific information about the medication you will receive, side effects, address nutritional needs, activity and what to expect at your first infusion. We encourage patients to bring family members and caregivers to this appointment and ask questions. Typically, this is a 1 hour appointment but time is not limited.
At the Simmons Cancer Institute infusion center, we want to make your appointment as comfortable as possible. We ask that you only bring 2 family members/caregivers with you during your infusion appointments. We ask that the people you bring are 13 years of age and older. This is for health and safety reasons for you, our other patients and the children under the age of 13. All seating has television access and free Wi-Fi. Please feel free to bring your laptops and handheld devices for your entertainment during your visits. Depending on how long your treatment is, you may want to bring snacks or your lunch. Let the nursing staff know if you have any special needs or requests. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
