Patient Information: Canceling, Rescheduling and Postponing Visits
Our team is reaching out to patients to reschedule any non-urgent appointments or elective surgeries that can be delayed. This delay in non-urgent office visits will help our physicians and staff provide support to patients suffering from COVID-19. If you have any questions about this, please call 217-545-6000. To request an appointment in the future, please fill out this form online.
As of March 17, SIU Medicine clinics have new visitor restrictions: One visitor will be allowed per patient if needed for patient assistance. Children (under the age of 18) may have two visitors to allow for parents/care providers to be present. Patients may request an exemption from their provider for extenuating circumstances, such as end of life care. Visitors may be required to check in at the entrance of the facility when they arrive.
What is SIU Medicine doing to minimize the risk of the coronavirus on its campuses?
The medical school is closely monitoring the situation, including recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, the State of Illinois and local health agencies – spanning the SIU Medicine clinical areas. The Risk and Safety team at SIU Medicine is triaging every patient visiting our clinics and is continually updating coronavirus protocols for clinical teams. Clinical protocols are continually being released from the Chief Medical Officer’s office.Learn More about Risk and Prevention
What is the university doing to prepare for a potential outbreak of the coronavirus on campus or in the region?
The chancellor has activated the university’s “all-hazards” team, established to plan for and address threats to the health and safety of the campus. This cross-functional team will plan for multiple scenarios should the virus reach central or southern Illinois, including how classes will be handled, related personnel policies and more. The team includes representatives from student health, counseling, housing, academic affairs, student affairs, university communications, procurement, DPS, plant and service operations, environmental health and safety and other areas.Learn How to Reduce Your Risk
