SIU School of Medicine unveiled the 2024 edition of SCOPE at an awards reception April 12. The student-produced literary magazine contains short stories, poems and artwork from learners, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the school.

SIU medical researchers seek causes, solutions for pituitary-related conditions

About one in 4,000 children are born with a deficiency of one or more pituitary hormones that results in a wide variety of health issues. Dr. Buffy Ellsworth at SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale is part of an extensive $2.77 million multi-university grant-funded research project to unravel the mystery of how congenital hypopituitarism (CH) occurs.

Davie named chair of Biomedical Sciences

Dr. Judy Davie has been named the chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences in Carbondale. She joined the SIU School of Medicine faculty in 2006, and has served as assistant and associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

A scientist at SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale will use a $445K federal grant to explore ways of turning off a genetic switch that allows a rare but devastating cancer to progress in children.

The Research Policy Committee honored Lynne Ling with the 2023 Frank J. Toth Award, the highest recognition for SIU School of Medicine research support personnel. Ling is lab manager in the Auditory Neurobiology Laboratory in the pharmacology department.
