Social media are two-way, online communication tools designed to facilitate conversations and relationship between interested parties. It is a very time-consuming duty, necessitating 5-10 hours a week, including weekends and holidays.
In general, Public Relations does not recommend that departments maintain their own social media networks. Instead, we strongly encourage your department or office to help us continue to strengthen the official SIU social media networks by sending public relations newsworthy information about your event, program or department.
Public Relations will strategically post these notices, creating a healthy and vibrant and diversified social media presence. Your department will benefit from existing audiences already affiliated with the School of Medicine.
This also will help us present a unified brand of SIU School of Medicine and SIU Medicine, preventing fragmented, silo-driven communications.
If you insist on having your own social media presence, your site must be registered with Public Relations. Please review the social media use guidelines and complete a registration form.
