    About me

    Prashanth Porayette, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of pediatric gastroenterology. He is also a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group.

    Before joining SIU, Porayette completed a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and a residency in pediatrics at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He also completed a pediatric research fellowship at the Herman B. Wells Center for Pediatric Research at Indiana University School of Medicine. Porayette earned his philosophy degree through the Molecular Medicine Graduate Program at The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences at Pennsylvania State University after earning his medical degree at Pramukhswami Medical College at Sardar Patel University in Gujarat, India.

    Porayette is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition; American College of Gastroenterology; American Academy of Pediatrics; and American Gastroenterological Association.

    He has written and co-authored numerous publications and posters on his research interests, which include pediatric inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, stem cell development and personalized medicine
