Seventy-two physicians and three graduate students at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine received their diplomas Saturday, May 22, at the school’s 47th annual commencement. The ceremony was held at Ken Leonard Field on the Sacred Heart-Griffin campus in Springfield.

The Dale and Deborah Smith Center for Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment at SIU Medicine is now enrolling patients with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease to help determine if an investigational drug is effective at treating this debilitating condition.

Traves Crabtree, MD, has been named chief of SIU Medicine's Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr. Crabtree is a professor and medical director of SIU's Surgical Skills Laboratory in the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation. Dr. Crabtree is an alumnus of SIU School of Medicine.
