Susan Nelson, MSN, APRN, CNP, CUNP
Susan E. Nelson is a board certified Urology and Family Nurse Practitioner who works in Pediatric Urology at SIU Medicine. She sees General Pediatric Urology Patients with special focus on incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction in the pediatric population.
Susan completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Community Health Education with a minor in Business from the University of Illinois in Champaign Urbana and began a Master’s program in Health Services Administration at Sangamon State University where she had the honor of being a Graduate Assistant for the Nursing Program and ultimately dropped out to pursue her degrees in Nursing starting at Lincoln Land Community College with an Associate of Science in Nursing, finishing her BSN at Sangamon State in 1990. She was an RN at Memorial Medical Center in the ER, Burn Unit and ICU for over 15 years serving on various Hospital wide committees to improve healthcare delivery. She completed her Masters in Nursing at Illinois State University in 2001 to become a Family Nurse Practitioner but began her NP years in Dermatology and then Urology in 2003 where she focused on General Adult Urology patients at PBM Urology and Springfield Clinic Urology. She became the first Nurse Practitioner in Illinois south of Chicago to become certified in Urology. After her mentor, Dr. Thomas Baron retired she took a break from SC Urology for three years in the Pulmonary Division of Springfield Clinic and is still a member of the American Academy of Sleep.
She returned to Urology in 2019 to work with Dr. Ranjiv Mathews at SIU School of Medicine focusing her efforts on caring for Pediatric Urology patients.
